Bali, Ubud Eats: Soma

Bali’s Ubud is like the veggie mecca of Indonesia. Here recently for a 3 day raw food program, Kate and Becky brought me to a few eateries that offer delicious vegan/veggie and raw friendly food.

Thai Buffet Lunch @Fringe Club

curry and vegetables

curry and vegetables

The Fringe Club offers vegetarian lunch buffets on weekdays but I love to go on Wednesdays as they offer Thai cuisine. From the picture above, you can see I had yellow curry and stir fried long beans with dried bean curd for mains. And I always go for a second helping for their corn fritters and salad. More New York Eats: Cafe Blossom, Terri Organic & Alfanoose

If you look hard enough, there are many vegetarian restaurants or vegetarian friendly places in Manhattan. Here’s a few I visited and liked:

1. Cafe Blossom

Root vegetables pastry wrap

Root vegetable phyllo pastry

I’m a fan of pastry wraps and this is filled with lots of root veggies – carrots, peas, turnips, sweet potato and rutabaga. Gives a rich and sourish but tasty flavor when dipped in white wine mustard cream sauce.

Greenfeel Vegetarian – Assortment of Asian Cuisines

Apart from good shopping, Mongkok is home to a number of delicious vegetarian eateries and Greenfeel Vegetarian (素食一家) is one of them. It’s location might be a little out of the way, but it’s definitely worth the trip.

Seek inner peace at Cafe Zen

Cafe Zen is nestled in the hustle and bustle of Mongkok, located on the 13th floor of Dundas Square.

Spanish tomato pork cutlet linguine

The cafe is owned by Kelvin, a Buddhist who volunteers at the temple cooking vegetarian cuisines before setting up his own eatery five years ago with his parents.

Cafe Zen offers a wide variety of food and the Spanish tomato pork cutlet linguine is an example of its range of fusion dishes available.

Pine Tree Cafe

If you’re in Bugis, head on to Fortune Centre and you’ll be spoilt for choice.

There are probably 6-8 vegetarian stalls in the building but I selected the Pine Tree Cafe, which was recommended by Jovin.

She knew the owners and told me they are meticulous in choosing the freshest vegetables and ingredients when it comes to preparing the dishes.

I decided to try the vegetarian version of Hakka lei cha rice.

Return to innocence @ Naive

Most meat eaters would smirk if their friend suggests bringing them to a restaurant that serves purely plant based ingredients with no meat, no seafood, no eggs, no onion, no garlic and no MSG.

To my delight, my friends who are not vegetarians have recommended to catch up for lunch at Naive.

Once you step into the clean and cool interiors, you’ll notice that the restaurant is filled with artwork by local artists.

Before we began our meals, we had to take part in a sesame seed blessing ceremony to de-stress so we could experience its food to the fullest.

The Japanese inspired ‘bloss’ ceremony encourage diners to grind the sesame seeds using the mortar and pestle for a few minutes that can then be sprinkled onto their food.

Naive has some of the most creative names for its dishes, click more to find out what is Cheeky Monkey, Autumn Cloud or Pocket of Treasures.
