VeganBurg: Meatless Organic Fast Food

This organic, vegan fast food restaurant is 10 minutes walk from Paya Lebar MRT but it’s worth the trip – especially if you’re a burger lover. And so many flavors to choose from – Hawaiian Pineapple, Smoky BBQ, Chargrilled Satay and Tangy Tartar.

Burger

I settled for the Cracked Pepper Mayo Burger served in their signature organic ciabatta bread filled with sunflower, pumpkin seeds and walnuts in rich, creamy mayonnaise. The patty was ok and for the price I had to fork out should have been thicker.

Quite a novel way of serving your burger meal in a camping tin, matches with the wooden benches and furniture in the restaurant. Seaweed fries was delicious although the beetroot carrot juice seems diluted.

The lady taking my orders at the counter wasn’t very helpful or friendly, would have been nice if they could improve their customer service.

But I’ll give VeganBurg a chance and try other flavors next time I’m back.

Eight Treasures Vegetarian (Guillemard Village)

Nonya Curry Fish

I love spicy food and this Nonya Curry Fish is just perfect since it’s drowned in Assam sauce and ladies finger/ okra.

Pine Tree Cafe

If you’re in Bugis, head on to Fortune Centre and you’ll be spoilt for choice.

There are probably 6-8 vegetarian stalls in the building but I selected the Pine Tree Cafe, which was recommended by Jovin.

She knew the owners and told me they are meticulous in choosing the freshest vegetables and ingredients when it comes to preparing the dishes.

I decided to try the vegetarian version of Hakka lei cha rice.

Enter the Divine Realm

Singapore cuisine is heavily influenced by the ethnic diversity of the country and some of the most tasty food are hidden in hawker centres – not your fancy air conditioned restaurants.

If you live around Hougang, Divine Vegetarian Family Restaurant is the place to get your local fix.

Kuay chap

Kuay chap

The real Kuay chap contains pig offal and braised duck meat but thank goodness the vegetarian version has none of these.

This Teochew dish is made of flat, broad rice sheets in soup with dark soy sauce, bean curds and for ovo-vegetarians, braised hard-boiled eggs.

Other must try dishes include Mee Siam, Hokkien Mee and Carrot Cake, click more to find out.

Return to innocence @ Naive

Most meat eaters would smirk if their friend suggests bringing them to a restaurant that serves purely plant based ingredients with no meat, no seafood, no eggs, no onion, no garlic and no MSG.

To my delight, my friends who are not vegetarians have recommended to catch up for lunch at Naive.

Once you step into the clean and cool interiors, you’ll notice that the restaurant is filled with artwork by local artists.

Before we began our meals, we had to take part in a sesame seed blessing ceremony to de-stress so we could experience its food to the fullest.

The Japanese inspired ‘bloss’ ceremony encourage diners to grind the sesame seeds using the mortar and pestle for a few minutes that can then be sprinkled onto their food.

Naive has some of the most creative names for its dishes, click more to find out what is Cheeky Monkey, Autumn Cloud or Pocket of Treasures.

Kaya toast + Half-boiled eggs = Delicious Brekky

What is a good ol’ breakfast for you? Since coming to Hong Kong, I’ve been eating chee cheong fun and recently started to take my cereals with brown rice milk again. But I will never pass up the chance to grab a full breakfast at my favourite YaKun store, which I did, when I caught up with Shehli, who is pregnant with her second kid and Cherisse who brought a surprise friend, Rayana along!

How I love those half-boiled eggs especially when you break the yolks and you must add lots of black sauce and pepper. Looks gooey but when you slurp it down… its sooo delicious! It didn’t taste very raw at all. I also ordered my kaya toast since I haven’t had decent kaya in Hong Kong. Supermarkets do stock Kaya but they are never as good as the ones back home. I forgot to check out Delifrance coz I know they sell kaya puffs too but not in Hong Kong…
